Double Bell: The Zero to Hero Brand

Published 2023-09-19 by Tyler J.

How a less popular brand recently exploded in popularity!

In the ever-changing market of airsoft, where brands constantly tussle for supremacy, a rising star emerged from relative obscurity - Double Bell. Before 2023, the mention of Double Bell would often draw puzzled looks, with many confusing it for other brands, such as Double Eagle or Golden Eagle. For a good while, they were reasonably under the radar. They produced mostly individual parts and rarely offered their own complete rifles. However, Double Bell decided to chart a new course for itself around the turn of 2022, introducing it's own line of entry-level AEGs and GBB pistols. Though their replicas come at a price that may raise an eye, their impressive quality offers quite a few reasons to buy.

Some of the most important words of wisdom I share in the airsoft world is that airsoft doesn't need to be expensive. It absolutely can be if you have a specific way you're trying to enjoy the hobby. But if you simply want to get out to the field and fling BBs, your biggest investment should only be the initial gathering of protective equipment and primary weapon. While many players often start out with a cheaper "beginner gun" and then purchase a higher end rifle later on, the more economically wise decision might be to purchase a high quality upgradable starter platform that can be modified and carried on into your airsoft future. For those who want something inexpensive, high quality, and endlessly modular for however-which way you feel like setting up your rifle in the future, Double Bell has the perfect AEGs for you.

Alright, what makes Double Bell's AEGs so good then?

Let's begin with a full breakdown of one of Double Bell's flagship models, the Double Bell M4 CQB Airsoft AEG Rifle w/ RAS II Rail System

While this M4s exterior design may initially seem rudimentary and unexciting, its simplicity doubles as one of it's greatest gifts. Its clean receiver is constructed of a durable metal that can withstand the beatings of rigorous play, and a good shake of the body proves a lack of wobble and tolerance inconsistency often seen with other budget-line rifles. For the tinkerers out there, its lack of gimmicks and weirdness make it endlessly open to configuration. Whether you want to throw on a different rail, barrel length, stock, pistol grip, or even new miscellaneous receiver pins, the Double Bell tends to be quite accepting.

If the basic CQB-R configuration still isn't quite your speed, Double Bell has a wide variety of iterations it's basic M4 model comes in. Take a look at some of these beautiful variants! Some of them might be just what you're looking for in a sub $250 full-metal M4.

For the dedicated marksman who takes pride in carefully placing long range shots, we have the Double Bell Precision MK12 SPR Airsoft AEG Rifle (Model: Mod 0)

For the nostalgic history enthusiast that knows time-tested combat tactics are more important that tactical modernity, we have the Double Bell Full Metal XM177 Airsoft AEG Rifle

For the accessory enthusiastic operator who can't get enough of an M4 with the ability to be tricked out with every bit of technology available, we have the Double Bell Full Metal M4 Airsoft AEG Rifle w/ 9.5" M-LOK Handguard (Color: Black)

Even though these M4s differ in style, they all have the same quality internals under the hood that drives their expectation-exceeding performance. Let's take a jump into the niche-defying technological spectacle that is the Double Bell gearbox, taking a look at how it redefines the standards for what a budget AEG gearbox should include.

Caution: This next section is about to get very nerdy very quickly.

Note: These images are taken of the Double Bell V3 AK gearbox since we did not have the V2 M4 version available at the time. The primary features and material quality remain the same.

Here at Evike.com, we are quite impressed with the quality of this gearbox. One of the foremost essential characteristics of modern AEG gearbox design is a QC (Quick Change) spring system, which this gearbox pleasantly greets you upon taking it out of your AEG. This innovative design not only allows you to change the velocity of your AEG with relative ease, but also makes taking it apart for upgrades or inspection a far simpler task. Ordinarily, you'd have to finesse those incredibly powerful AEG springs into the gearbox while making sure every other small pin, spring, and latch stays in place all at once as you closed the gearbox. Even for experienced technicians, that archaic process could result in a chain reaction of springs and parts flying everywhere if botched. Thanks to the QC spring guide, this process becomes a piece of cake, as you can safely insert the main AEG spring once every other part is properly in place and screwed in tight.

Once you've delicately separated the gearbox casing, the Double Bell gearbox surprises you with a number of reinforced parts pre-installed, saving you the hassle of having to purchase certain aftermarket upgrade parts. The pre-installed steel-tooth piston greatly raises the longevity of your rifle, as typical polycarbonate or nylon pistons tend to inevitably wear down and strip over extended periods of use. Ensuring maximum air seal and durability right from the factory, the Double Bell also comes with a CNC aluminum piston head and nozzle, each with an extra O-ring to keep things air-tight.

Over greasing, poor gear alignment, and weak motors are all common plagues of most standard budget airsoft AEGs. Yet, so far as we've seen, Double Bell's recent rifles have very little of that. The out-the-box gear shimming is typically fairly acceptable for factory standards, and the grease is appropriately applied on all required areas. The motor that drives the gears may not have high-end neodymium magnets, but it still seems to have enough torque to give this rifle a decently snappy trigger response right out of the box. Impressively enough, it also seems to hold up to the stress of high voltage 11.1 batteries with relative ease.

That sounds cool and all, but what if I want something besides an M4?

Luckily for you, Double Bell also offers a unique line of AKs, pistols, and other niche weapons as well. While I recommend the M4 the most for its proven consistency and versatility, the Double Bell AKs also make use of the same gearbox gearbox design choices that make the M4s so great. Here are some of my personal favorites:

For the close-quarters skirmisher enamored by the concept of rushing into battle with a reliable brick of metal and wood, we have the Double Bell Full Metal Receiver AKS74U Airsoft AEG Rifle (Model: Real Wood Furniture)

For the banana-mag enthusiast who knows their rifle will need the tactical assistance of an attachment here or there, we have the Double Bell Full Metal AK74 Airsoft AEG Rifle w/ CNC M-LOK Rail

For the novelty-driven individualist who wants something with the perfect uncanny blend of realism and uniqueness, we have the Double Bell Full Metal MK-47 Airsoft AEG Rifle (Color: Real Wood)

Alright, so their AEGs are pretty cool. What about their pistols?

The value doesn't stop at Double Bell's AEGs. Their pistols offer features and accessories that make their budget price almost seem suspicious. Let's take a look at one of their more popular pistol selections: The Double Bell Hi-CAPA 5.1 Gas Blowback Airsoft Pistol (Color: Black-Gold / Green Gas)

This absolutely fantastic sub $100 pistol might just be a top contender for the most highly recommended starter handgun. Much to my amazement, this Hi-Capa pistol comes packaged in a hard-shell case with eggshell foam keeping it protected, as oppose to the traditional cardboard box most other pistols come with. Inside the case you'll find the pistol, a 30 round magazine, and a spare nozzle to keep you secured with replacement parts. According to our techs, this pistol is a direct Tokyo Marui based clone, making it compatible with any Tokyo Marui spec after-market parts if you decide to upgrade down the line (modification may still be required in some instances.) Its fantastic performance is complimented by its realistic heft, allowing for a smooth and immersive play experience when using this pistol. Keep in mind, all these features are coming from a bottom-of-the-budget gas blowback pistol! Hot damn!

If the Hi-Capa design doesn't fit your fancy, Double Bell has quite a few other options that also come standard with a hard shell case and spare nozzle. Here's some other considerations to take in to account:

For the classy Italian sharpshooter who prefers a bit of shine when it's blasting time, we have the Double Bell M92 Gas Blowback Airsoft Pistol (Color: Silver / Green Gas)

For the well-armed slickster who could fit an extra backup BB-blaster in that vacant pocket, we have the Matrix Elite Detonics 1911 .45 Combat Master Airsoft Gas Blowback Pistol (Model: Brushed Two-Tone)

For the WWII purist who wants nothing more than the original design that stayed in U.S. service for 74 years, we have the Double Bell M1911A1 Airsoft Gas Blowback Pistol (Color: Black / CO2)

Double Bell, coming out of seemingly nowhere with their high quality products, has entirely reshaped the definition of a budget airsoft rifle. Offering innovative designs at remarkably low prices, they have rightly captured the attention and admiration of airsoft veterans and beginners alike. As they continue to evolve and expand their offerings, Double Bell's ascent in the industry is a story worth following.
