Published 2024-05-08 by Tyler J.

How has Lawrence set up his Phantom Gear plate carrier?

Navigating the plethora of airsoft gear on Evike.com can be a daunting task for newcomers, especially when it comes to assembling a plate carrier setup. Choosing the right mag pouches, utility pouches, and other essential accessories can often be an overwhelming endeavor. Recognizing this challenge, we’ve launched a dedicated mini-series spotlighting the expertise of a few Evike Superstore employees, who’s years in the industry have made them excellent kit assemblers.
For the average Evike Superstore employee, gear recommendations are part of their daily routine. Their personal creations not only reflect their unique preferences but also cater to practical roles on the airsoft field. Among the popular plate carrier brand choices at Evike.com is Phantom Gear, who offer a handful of amazing plate carriers renowned for their comfort, aesthetic appeal, and affordability—making it a first recommendation for any player looking to get their first setup up and running.

In today’s installment of our Plate Carrier Build Analysis, we’ll take a look at a setup by Lawrence Harris, an Evike employee whose expertise led him to setup an interesting radio support build. Join us as we delve into the details of Lawrence’s setup, exploring the thoughtful choices that make his plate carrier both functional and impressive on the airsoft battlefield. Let’s dive right in!

Question 1: Which base plate carrier from Phantom Gear did you choose and why?

Wisdom of Lawrence: “So I went with the phantom gear polarity, and I went with that because I really like the magnetic buckle system that they have. It's just really convenient. It's really easy to don and doff the carrier and like that's honestly a really big factor for me.”

Taking inspiration from many real-steel plate carriers on the market, the Phantom Gear Polarity utilizes its own unique quick-detach system that makes taking the plate carrier on and off a breeze. Very few plate carriers in the polarity’s price range have such a feature!

Question 2: Give us a tour of your plate carrier. What inspired its design?

Wisdom of Lawrence: “My plate carrier here is loosely inspired by like a US Air Force combat controller and with like a dual comm setup. But the whole purpose of this is that it's a support carrier. It looks like a dual comm setup but these are actually to hold BBs. I have a speed loader in here. Of course, I'm gonna have my rifle pouches. I have an admin pouch for maps and stuff like that and then on the back I'm gonna have like a toilet paper pouch, hydration bladder, all that good stuff.”

Lawrence is a military gear enthusiast and spends much of his freetime researching gear used in real wartime operations. As an airsofter too, he’s fairly skilled at mixing realism with practicality in the 6mm world. NATO impressionist kits are a specialty of his, so the good ol’ M4 is his typical go-to rifle of choice. This kit synergizes perfectly with his customized KWA T10 ERG!

Question 3: What kind of airsofter would you recommend your plate carrier to?

Wisdom of Lawrence: “I think it's great for milsim airsofters and anyone that just wants to LARP in general. Really good example of how you can be a support airsofter without having to have like real radios and all that kind of stuff.”

Airsoft kit needn’t be as expensive as a real steel kit. When your life isn’t on the line and you’re playing a fun LARP with your silly costume, all a kit needs to do is look cool. This setup in particular would be perfect for more intense airsoft events such as Milsim West and American Milsim. Each of those mock radios can hold up to 3000 BBs to ensure you and your crew can stay stocked up during the longest of skirmishes. If your event allows collecting BBs off of fallen enemies, very few players will be expecting the radios as the primary BB storage location!
