Published 2024-05-29 by Tyler J.

How would Jason set up his Phantom Gear plate carrier?

Navigating the plethora of airsoft gear on Evike.com can be a daunting task for newcomers, especially when it comes to assembling a plate carrier setup. Choosing the right mag pouches, utility pouches, and other essential accessories can often be an overwhelming endeavor. Recognizing this challenge, we’ve launched a dedicated mini-series spotlighting the expertise of a few Evike Superstore employees, who’s years in the industry have made them excellent kit assemblers.

For the average Evike Superstore employee, gear recommendations are part of their daily routine. Their personal creations not only reflect their unique preferences but also cater to practical roles on the airsoft field. Among the popular plate carrier brand choices here at Evike.com is Phantom Gear, who offer a handful of amazing plate carriers renowned for their comfort, aesthetic appeal, and affordability—making it a first recommendation for any player looking to get their first setup up and running.

In today’s installment of our Plate Carrier Build Analysis, we’ll take a look at a setup by Jason Yoo, an Evike employee whose expertise led him to setup an awesome real steel inspired build. Join us as we delve into the details of Jason’s setup, exploring the thoughtful choices that make his plate carrier both functional and impressive on the airsoft battlefield. Let’s dive right in!

Question 1: Which plate carrier did you choose and why?

Wisdom of Jason: ”I chose it because it’s really similar to my real-life plate carrier that I use for real steel shooting.”

Though Jason is still an airsoft enthusiast, you’re more likely to find him at a real-steel gun range instead of an airsoft field. Much of his fascination with airsoft is founded in the training aspect of the hobby. He favors gas blowbacks and electric recoil systems over standard AEGs and vouches for kit realism to build his comfort with tactical gear. On the off times he does show up at the airsoft field, he uses weighted training plates to give his gear a familiar feel to his real-steel body armor. The boogeyman favors a more minimalist, civilian oriented plate carrier design, which is just how Jason likes it.

Question 2: Give us a tour of your plate carrier. What inspired it’s design?

Wisdom of Jason: ”Everything’s laid out exactly how it is on my real plate carrier. I have my placard, my dump pouch, my general purpose pouch, and my emergency medical/snack pouch. Sometimes I put snacks here because I get hungry.”

When it comes to gear selection, Jason starts from the angle of a solo civilian taking what he needs to protect his family in a moment of crisis. His pouches are streamlined for rapid equipment acquisition to ensure he can grab what he needs with haste at a moment’s notice. The front facing dump pouch makes it easy to discard spent magazines or beef jerky wrappers without littering them across the field, and both of his general pouches are strategically placed in super easy to access locations. The tac-snack-pack is awesome for any hunger emergencies, though can be outfitted with medical supplies as well if the stakes are higher.

Question 3: What do you think the most important accessory on your plate carrier is?

Wisdom of Jason: ”Obviously my placard is going to be the most important because it carries my magazines, also other items, but honestly this might be my most important accessory because sometimes you got to feed your bad habits, you know?.”

Jason’s entire placard setup is simply the Phantom Gear specter slapped onto the Boogeyman plate carrier. It’s an amazingly versatile piece of kit that comes as a standalone chest-rig for under $50 with the ability to be attached as a full placard/general purpose pouch setup to plate carriers with the buckles to support it. Jason makes excellent use of the placard by filling it with his magazines and additional snacks for peak battlefield satiety. On the days where his hunger knows no bounds, the emergency medical snack pack comes in clutch as a rapid famishing response device. Check this awesome chest rig and medical pack out below!

Question 4: What kind of airsofter would you recommend this plate carrier to??

Wisdom of Jason: ”This plate carrier fits a general role, so pretty much anybody with an M4 AR style loadout. It works really well for submachine guns, but I typically like chest rigs for those.”

Looking for a straightforward plate carrier that hits all the basic marks for what you might need on the airsoft battlefield? No shame in copying Jason’s straightforward setup! I highly recommend this plate carrier to anyone looking for an efficient setup that minimizes all the fluff. It’s comfortable and effective for both real-steel and airsoft applications. Think the Phantom Gear Boogeyman might be the plate carrier for you? Pick one up at Evike.com today!

Oh, and be sure to satiate your hunger on the way out!
